Home-Based Business Revolution
ByThe last ten years has seen a huge shift in how businesses are conducted and how people make money for themselves. Previously the 9-5 business model was pretty much standard in most companies and the only alternatives were for people to run their own high street shop offering products or services. However, this is the 21st Century and advances in communications and employee powers have meant that more people than ever are enjoying the benefits of home-working.
A huge development was when companies changed their policies and allowed staff more flexibility in work location and hours. This was mainly available due to improved and more widespread internet connectivity, but also as a result of a change in legislation that allowed staff more flexibility in working hours and location. At first the legislation was brought in to help those with disabilities and single parents, but as organisations realised the benefits, many have rolled it out for all their staff members.
People, like the founders of IWOOT, soon realised that they could work just as efficiently from home, and it gave them a great deal more freedom in their social life due to the loss of commuting time. They also found that they could run whole sections of a business very well from home and this inevitably gave lead to people setting up their own business. The home-based business never looked back.
After some high profile home-businesses like I Want One of Those.com become a succes story, millions of others followed their lead. Working from home is certainly no easier than office work and lots of people still fail, but the main attraction is the improved quality of life that many people get from it. This is one reason why some of the best business men and women around the world are leaving their formal offices and doing the job from the comfort of their own home office. The popularity of home-based business has become such that there are now even services that train people in how to run one and point out all the pit falls that one could fall into. The home working idea is still in its infancy really and as technology & communications continue to improve, it is likely we will see the movement grow and grow.
